As Graceful as ever

Date: May - July 2018 (Every Friday) - Malay Dance

As the Hari Raya celebration drew nearer, participants of Club HEAL tapped onto their inner Som Said (a legendary individual in the history of Malay Dance). Guided by our talented volunteers, Tiara, Insyirah and Amirah, the choreography process was one of simplicity yet dynamic. We were all challenged to master our dance movements, portraying it with subtlety and confidence on stage in front of distinguished guests like MP Mdm Rahayu Mahzam and Club HEAL’s board of directors. A great event indeed!

While our volunteers only stepped in weekly for practice sessions, the participants conducted extra dance sessions of their own facilitated by the Programme Executive (P.E). With every practice, they tried their best to perfect every gerak, langkah, and lentik, on top of working hand-in-hand to achieve synchronicity. This involved banking on their teamwork and seeing eye-to-eye to help each other remember dance moves which are harder to remember. For instance, terming the steps as “balik rumah” (return home) and simply “kiri, kanan, kiri” (left, right, left).

The participants certainly picked it up faster than our committee members! Haha!

Such dedication and tenacity definitely paid off as we not only offered a lovely performance, but also enjoyed ourselves very much. Great memories were created, and we definitely looking forward to the next Raya!
